What is standby power?

Standby power is the energy consumed by an appliance while it is not performing its primary function. Just like a leaky tap, standby power continually wastes energy. It now accounts for approximately 10% of the energy cosumed in Australian homes. The main contributors to standby power use include computers and peripherals and home entertainment equipment (almost 50% of standby use).*

How do I connect?

Simply determine which component you want to be the 'master' (eg: computer tower, DVD recorder) and plug it in. Plug in the remaining devices, switch on the power board and you are all set to 'save'.

How much will I save?

While everyones connected equipment is different, the average home can expect to save the equivalent of a 40-60 watt lamp that is left on all day, everyday. For example, in a home environment if the connected equipment is in use 5 hours a day, that means almost 80% of the time the products are in standby mode.
